Wednesday, April 29

(Enter Medical Sciences at 513 Parnassus, go up stairs, enter courtyard, and turn left to Health Sciences West)
Lunch will be provided by Marriage Equality USA (http://www.marriageequalityusa.org)

Because same-sex relationships are not recognized by the U.S. government, foreign nationals in same-sex relationships with U.S. citizens cannot be sponsored for immigration as heterosexual spouses can be. This causes heartbreaking separations and much anxiety: you may have read about the recent deportation order against a mother of two in Pacifica who faces either being separated from her wife of 23 years and their children, or uprooting her entire family to an uncertain future in a country that the children have never known.
Come learn about the barriers that confront bi-national same-sex couples–and what you can do to help eliminate them. An expert panel will discuss current issues faced by these couples and their families; the status of the LGBT-friendly Uniting American Families Act; and UCSF policies around green card sponsorship. Speakers include Amos Lim, Founder of Out4Immigration; Melanie Nathan, Founder of Private Courts Mediation and strategist for the Tan-Mercado family; and Gang Wang, Director of UCSF Services to International Students and Scholars.

I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for attending the April 29th screening of The Mo Diaries. I was thrilled that we had a nearly sold out show and receive a standing ovation from the audience. Special  thanks to Atty. Melanie Nathan for speaking that evening on immigration laws as it applies to gay marriage. And a big thank you to Lori Woods for flying into SF. from Chicago just to support me on my big night. I’m showing at the Triple R Resort at the Russian River Monday May 4th were we’ve had at least 50 people RSVP to attend. Not bad for a smaller showing. It’s one thing to write something and think it might be a good piece. It’s quite another to have it accepted by your peers. I think everyone was especially surprised by how funny the film was. I’d like to thank those of you who came to support the film that evening and a special thanks to those who donated funds to keep the film going. Again my goal is to take the film to every LGBT Center in the country but of course it will take community and financial support to do that. If you’d like to make a tax deductible donation, while supporting this film there are three ways to do it. Lastly, I am pleased to announce that Up The River Video in Guernville will be carrying ,The Mo Diaries as of May 15th. You may call them at 707-869-3167 to place an order. I will also be screening the movie at the Triple R Resort in Guernville in July as well as a second screening July 29th at the LGBT Center. More on that later. We also have requests to screen in NYC,Chicago, and Denver (also in July). To make a donation:
